Theatre performance
CADENZA, 2025
Exploring new territory, the Productions de L’Instable presents CADENZA, a minimalist and intimate theatre where the audience can observe the interplay between actors, much like they would engage with a photograph, installation, painting, or sculpture. In this space, each movement, word, and moment of silence carries its own significance. The title of the performance is borrowed from the world of music and refers to a passage where artists can express themselves freely and with virtuosity, adding a poetic and intimate dimension to their interpretation.
This piece was developed at the JIM (Jouer Ici Maintenant) and as part of two creative residencies in 2024. What sets it apart is its instant activation in specific locations. The upcoming performance will mark its official debut, where actors will inhabit public spaces along a section of the Festival route, engaging in dialogue with various artworks featured in the program.
Founded in Montreal in 2011 by actor and creator Frédéric Barbusci, Productions de L’Instable aims to create new structures and spaces for improvisational theatre. As a non-profit organization, it emphasizes listening, openness, and a willingness to create and present ephemeral works anchored in the present moment. Since its inception, the company has produced over fifty shows in unconventional formats across Quebec, France, and the United States. These productions are either self-produced in venues encouraging artistic experimentation or co-presented at significant events like the Francos de Montréal, Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. a training center for performing artists looking to refine their skills in spontaneity, and Just for Laughs. In 2023, Les Productions de L’Instable opened the JIM (Jouer Ici Maintenant), a training centre for performing artists who want to hone the art of spontaneity.
